We built this website to demonstrate what could be done with 1 statically hosted HTML page on an AWS S3 bucket. Using external services and plugins to achieve all of the base functionality we felt we needed to deliver. A major factor was to keep the site as cost friendly as possible (Ref: the cheaper the better) without losing any quality in service.
We also wanted the site to be responsive to various devices (try viewing this site on a mobile and then a desktop, or just look right a bit). We also felt we needed it to be clear/clean visually. We wanted to achieve all of this within a week - we firmly believe our time should be spent working on your websites and helping build your business much more than ours.

"a set of functions and procedures allowing the creation of applications that access the features or data of an operating system, application, or other service." WikipediaIf you're curious between the difference between a Web Service and an API it's explained in much more detail on the link below. Though to help keep connectivity between systems may be useful, important, or perhaps something you don't need to be doing and need to an exit strategy. Or perhaps these just aren't the droids you're looking for.
